Auckland have extended their lead at the top of the domestic Twenty20 cricket competition and secured a home final after beating Northern Districts by eight wickets in their HRV Cup cricket clash at Mt Maunganui.

Central Districts climbed above the beaten Northern Knights into outright second with a 29-run win over Wellington at the Basin Reserve which leaves the Firebirds in fifth place, second to bottom on the points ladder and now out of contention for the final.

Rain washed out the match between last placed Otago and fourth placed Canterbury in Alexandra with the game abandoned, which doesn't help the Wizards' faint hopes either.
