The New Zealand rugby sevens team have all but sealed their ninth World Series title after cruising through pool play at the penultimate round in London, while closest rivals England failed to make the Cup quarter-finals.

Gordon Tietjens' men beat Kenya 28-12 then thrashed Spain 40-7 and Wales 31-12, while England stumbled badly at home with just one win in pool play over the USA, 31-21.

They then lost to France 21-14 and drew 12-12 with Argentina, and England coach Ben Ryan concedes the title is New Zealand's and they may even lose out on second place to Samoa now.

Samoa face Fiji in the quarters, New Zealand play Argentina, Australia play South Africa and France play Wales.

A record crowd of more than 54,000 fans attended day one at Twickenham.
