Usain Bolt's three-year monopoly or world sprint titles ended on Sunday night with his sensational disqualification in the 100 metres final at the world athletics chamionships in Daegu.
Bolt became the first high profile casualty of a controversial new rule introduced last year under which athletes who false start are immediately disqualified.
The world's fastest man started way too early and was ejected from the final which was won by his 21 year old Jamaican training partner Yohan Blake in 9.92 seconds.
The American Walter Dix pipped Kim Collins from St Kitts and Nevis for the silver meadal.
35 year old Collins became the oldest 100 metres medalist, and he intends to compete at the next world championships in 2013.
It was also a grim night for the world's most successful distance runner on the track.
Kenenisa Bekele's unbeaten record over 10-thousand metres ended when he dramatically pulled out of the race in the closing stages of a riveting final won by his compatriot Ibrahim Jeilan.
Bekele had been away from the track for 18 months after rupturing a calf muscle.
