Williams cleared by judiciary

Samoan fullback Paul Williams has been cleared by the judiciary after he was sent off for striking in Friday's Rugby World Cup loss to South Africa in Auckland.

Judicial Officer Kieran Donnelly decided the offence, which Williams admitted, was at the lower end of the scale and no further sanction was necessary.

There were compelling on-field and/or off-field mitigating features and a complete absence of on-field and/or off-field aggravating features, the strike was an open-handed push, the contact was not heavy and there was no adverse effect on the victim player or the match.

Williams is free to play with immediate effect.
