Standoff between NBA players and owners continues

Stars Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce were among players who met with NBA basketball club owners in contract negotiations as a 96-day lockout over money issues continued.

The season is due to begin on November 1st.

The NBA has already called off pre-season training camp and only days remain before the NBA shortens a season due to financial issues for only the second time in history.

Owners want a hard salary cap rather the current exemption filled one but players are rejecting that saying it would lead to major salary cuts.

Players were assured 57 per cent of revenues under the previous contract but the 30 clubs only eight of which made a profit last year want that reduced to 46 percent.
