Plenty of competition in Invercargill

10:14 am on 21 November 2011

The Oceania Track Championships start today in Invercargill - the first competitive hit-out for the BikeNZ women's team pursuit in eight months.

The team has been training together in the southern city all week and will be led by the Commonwealth Games gold medallist and 2009 world champion in the individual pursuit, Alison Shanks.

With the individual pursuit not an Olympic event now, Shanks has been forced to change to the teams pursuit.

She says there's lots of competition within the squad as well as against the Australians this week.

Double Beijing Olympic medalist Hayden Roulston won't be competing in Invercargil as he's focussing on his road career in Europe.
