The Australian golfer Lindsey Wright, who was on the verge of retiring only a few months ago, has a two year exemption on the Ladies European tour after holing a four metre birdie putt on the last hole to win the New Zealand Open yesterday at the Pegasus club near Christchurch.

Wright edged out the 22 year old Australian rookie Jessica Speechley who stormed home with a 65, and the American Alison Walshe.

The leading New Zealander was 17-year-old Cecilia Cho, who finished 12th equal, one stroke ahead of her friend and rival, 14 year old Lydia Ko.

Cho is on the verge of turning professional.
