Pay deal settled for 2500 super city workers

Another milestone has been reached in creating Auckland's super city council, with employment conditions settled for thousands of workers.

The deal involves pay increases of varying amounts in the first year, and a 2.5% rise in the second year.

It has taken months to hammer out three largely identical agreements to replace 11 agreements, with differing conditions, across the region.

The deal covers more than 2500 people in the new Auckland Council, the agency Transport Auckland, and the art gallery.

The public sector union PSA says the certainty is good.

However, thousands of staff may not know until the end of next month exactly which job they will have when the new Auckland Council comes into being on 1 November, combining eight existing councils.
