Maori Battalion survivors down to 25

Another veteran of the 28th Maori Battalion has died, reducing the number of survivors to 25.

The former soldier, 93 year-old Kepa Kepa of Ngai Tuhoe and Ngati Awa, died in Auckland on Sunday.

His tangi will be held in Eastern Bay of Plenty on Wednesday.

Mr Kepa served with the Maori Battalion in North Africa and in Italy during World War 2.

His death comes just weeks before the battalion's final hui on 1 December when the 28th Maori Battalion National Association will be formally wound up.
