Catalogue of kai to sell to the world

Work is underway to uncover how many Maori food and drink producers are in Aotearoa.

The job of drawing up a catalogue has been commissioned by business consultancy Poutama.

It says it knows of some kai and beverage makers who export but wants to learn about all producers.

The aim is to show off Maori goods to overseas buyers during foreign trade exhibitions.

Poutama chief executive Richard Jones says it is about selling the unique brand behind kai, such as cheese and fish.

He says there is a story behind most Maori food products, something which can be wrapped into the brand.
