Mozart completed this fourth horn concerto in 1786. It was written with his friend Joseph Leutgeb in mind, and it's thought that the use of four colours of ink on the manuscript might be a private joke between them.

The work is in three movements:

  • Allegro moderato
  • Romance (Andante cantabile)
  • Rondo (Allegro vivace)
