Stephen De Pledge's arrangement of Schumann's Opus 1, the fiendishly difficult set of variations originally for piano.

Schumann dedicated the work to "Pauline, Comtesse d'Abegg", a fictional character of his imagination. The name 'Abegg', however, provides the musical motif on which the variations are based: A-B♭-E-G-G.
