Conductor Uwe Grodd came to international attention in 2000, when his CD of Vanhal symphonies with the Nicolaus Esterhazy Sinfonia won First Prize at the Cannes Classical Awards – and that’s been followed by numerous other awards since.

Uwe has been musical director of the Manukau Symphony Orchestra since it was founded 28 years ago.

He spoke with Upbeat ahead of the MSO's season-opener concert this weekend which features the orchestra's "most-loved soloist" Michael Houstoun playing Camille Saint-Saëns' fifth piano concerto, 'The Egyptian'.
