When technology takes over from nature

From Afternoons, 3:10 pm on 7 August 2023

Nature no longer calls the shots with new advances in a  field where technology meets biology giving us new medicines, sustainable jet fuel, lab-grown meat and more. Synthetic Biology allows us to engineer living cells and it's attracting billions of dollars in investment, including a big player in the bio-fuels space here in New Zealand. Ted Anton is a Professor of English and an award winning science writer who introduces us to the humans behind this science-fiction like world.  His new book  tells the stories of people on the frontier of discovery and the policy makers trying to keep up with them. It's called Programmable Planet: The Synthetic Biology Revolution.
