US ship, planes strike Islamic State in Syria for first time

The United States has launched air and missile strikes for the first time against Islamic State strongholds in Syria, with Arab allies backing it up. The targets have been the headquarters of the militants in the city of Raqqa which was taken over early this year as they began their push into neighbouring Iraq, and also Islamic state weapon supplies.
