Covid-19: Supermarket worker told to work or go unpaid

From Checkpoint, 5:44 pm on 27 March 2020

Essential services workers who have underlying health conditions are being assured they can get special sick leave payments during the Covid-19 lockdown.

A supermarket worker with health conditions has been told to work, or not get paid, despite the government urging all those who are deemed high-risk to stay home.

In a statement Foodstuffs said if an employee considers themselves to be high risk they can discuss with their direct manager ways to reduce their risk of contracting Covid-19.

Head of corporate affairs Antoinette Laird says: "it's not a one size fits all and really depends on the role they are in and their situation."
