National MP Andrew Falloon quits, alleged to have shared indecent material

From Checkpoint, 5:07 pm on 20 July 2020

Monday has seen another National Party resignation, this time the South Canterbury backbencher and MP for Rangitata, Andrew Falloon.

An alcohol-related incident is believed to be behind his decision to step down at the September election. This is just the latest controversy for the opposition party that last week elected new leader Judith Collins.

Mr Falloon's imminent resignation was announced via a media statement this afternoon, followed shortly after by one from his leader.

RNZ political editor Jane Patterson tells Lisa Owen it is understood Falloon sent "indecent material" to a woman who was not his wife, after he had been drinking.
