Protesters burn headscarves at Iranian Embassy in Wellington

From Checkpoint, 5:07 pm on 28 October 2022

Protesters burned headscarves and passports and defaced the sign outside the Iranian embassy in Wellington today - calling it a "terrorist embassy".

There have been widespread protests in Iran for weeks, in response to the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who died in custody after being arrested for violating the country's dress code.

Today in Wellington, around 50 people demonstrated outside the embassy and called on the international community to do more. Our political reporter Anneke Smith was there.
