8,000 more people out of work than previous quarter

8,000 more people are out of work than in the previous quarter of the year, and an additional 7,000 aren't getting as much work as they would like.

Data from Stats NZ has unemployment sitting at 3.9 percent for the September quarter, and economists reckon it's going to increase even further over the next 12 months.

And with fewer job vacancies being advertised, the number of people who aren't getting enough work or are "under utilised", as they say, jumped half a percent.
