1.20 Arooj Aftab ahead of her performance at  WOMAD 2024 

Grammy award winning, Arooj Aftab has announced her first-ever NZ show in NZ at Womad Festival in March 

The New York, Brookltyn Based Pakistani musician has had huge success since the release of her album VULTURE PRINCE - and album that has connected with the world - and her spellbinding performance style added her to the New York Times best concert list and seen her perform at Coachella, Primavera Sound and Glastonbury 

She received even further attention when former president Barack Obama included her song on his Summer playlist 

Charlotte Ryan spoke to her earlier this week ahead of her performance in NZ at WOMAD 2024

The Festival runs from  15-17 March, 2024 at Brooklands Park and the TSB Bowl of Brooklands.

2.10 Music 101 Live Session: Mermaidens

Mermaidens are back, and back in style! A self-titled exercise in indie brilliance, largely recorded with the wizardly Lee Prebble at his Surgery Studios, and produced by the band alongside.

The Phoenix Foundation's Samuel Flynn Scott, whose mentorship the band say helped push them beyond their comfort zone. Mermaidens finds the band taking a DIY approach. Exploring themes of "self-awareness, introspection, long-term love, and even channelling political anger and frustration" - We are 101% here for this!

Gussie Larkin,(Guitar,vocals)  Lily West (Bass, Vocals) and Abe Hollingsworth (Drums) are joined by Louisa Nicklin (Guitar) for this session, recorded live in the RNZ Auckland studios, engineered by Andre Upston.

Their new self titled album Mermaidens is out now and they are on tour. More info and tickets here

This week on Introducing, its an LA Based producer, songwriter and multi- instrumentalist who has collaborated closely with some of Aotearoa's best artists. 

Now she is releasing her first single from her own project - Luna Shadows

3.30  Cloudboy 'Down At The End of the Garden - Reissue and tour

Dunedin 90s electronic music group Cloudboy recorded and performed between 1995 and 2003.

Their debut album 'Down at the End of the Garden' was released on vinyl for the first time earlier this year on Record Store Day.

And to accompany this special release - The band have reunited and performing throughout NZ this month.

 Demarnia Lloyd speaks to Charlotte Ryan about the reissue and tour.

Nicola Toki has an impressive history of conservation leadership and advocacy for New Zealand’s wildlife and has worked in a range of roles across the private and public sector. 
You may recognise her from her weekly Critter of the week feature with Jesse Mulligan here on RNZ , Her TV show  Endangered Species Aotearoa and has just released a new book Critters of Aotearoa

Voting for Bird of the Century will open at 9am on Monday 30 October 2023 and run for two weeks, closing at 5pm on Sunday 12 November 2023. The winner will be announced the following morning on Monday 13 November 2023.
