The Panel with Martin Cocker and Victoria Stewart (Part 2)

From The Panel, 4:05 pm on 24 October 2018

The first life on Earth may have been purple, a new research paper suggests. The paper in the International Journal of Astrobiology argues that before green plants took energy from the sun, tiny purple organisms reigned. The scientists postulate alien life could be the same. We ask the panelists what colours they are drawn to. What the Panelists Martin Cocker and Victoria Stewart want to talk about. A mental health nurse who was assaulted by a patient is angry he has returned to Nelson where she lives. Wendy Hamer was stabbed, punched and scalded with boiling water by the man, who was found not guilty by reason of insanity. She says her rights are being ignored. Victims' advocate Ruth Money speaks to us on Wendy's behalf about the case. Only about 3 percent of people bike to work, will cycling ever reach critical mass here? Or will cycleways become e-roads? E-scooters are now across the country, Lime scooters have been rolled out in Auckland and the city is expecting another lot from a different company soon. Some aren't impressed with the scooters though, questioned whether the motorised scooters should be travelling on footpaths. The panelists give their view on the scooters - passing fad or the future of public transport? After nine years of construction, the world's longest sea bridge will open this week. It connects Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China, but critics say not many people will be able to use it.
