The Panel with Selwyn Manning and Cas Carter (Part 1)

From The Panel, 4:03 pm on 26 October 2018

People around the country are boycotting petrol over increased prices. The Facebook event has 18,000 Kiwis saying they won't fill up their cars until Sunday in protest against the rising costs. Organisers encourage people to use smaller companies if they must but to stay away from the big players like Z, BP, and Mobil. The panelists discuss whether they will be staying away from the pump. More bombs have been sent to high profile democrats in the US, today former Vice President Joe Biden and actor Robert De Niro. They are similar to the explosive devices sent to several other critics of President Donald Trump in the past days. None of the 10 bombs have exploded but authorities are still hunting for culprit. We ask the panelists whether this will have any effect on the upcoming mid-term elections. Yesterday we discussed alternative funding mechanisms for councils now the Prime Minister has ruled regional fuel taxes outside of Auckland. The question is whether these are viable. A listener has been in touch with his concerns about rate rises, he lives in Porirua and belives they are too high. We speak to Porirua Mayor Mike Tana about the situation. Yesterday The Panel discussed the need for change in workplace culture, and whether that change needs to start at parliament. We've had lots of feedback on this point, many listeners arguing politics needs to be less combative and more foc ussed on delivering for the country. The panelists debate whether we should demand more of our politicians and their actions.
