Stealing bits to nibble on at the supermarket

Some can justify "sampling" the goods at the supermarket. What harm is it to chow down on a handful of pick-n-mix nuts as you shop? One academic was cited as saying that putting the wrong price on the checkout could be seen by some as a sort of "revenge shoplifting". Isn't just plain stealing?
