Yesterday Newshub reported it has seen texts and Facebook messages between Government minister Kris Faafoi and Jason Kerrison, the lead singer of the band Opshop, whose stepfather's partnership visa application had been declined. While we haven't seen the texts, Newshub alleges Mr Faafoi asked for details of the case and promised to "talk to the right people" on Kerrison's behalf. Ben Thomas, former political staffer who now works at lobbying firm Exceltium, joins the discussion. Yesterday the Office of Film and Literature Classification released a report, analysing the pornography videos most watched by New Zealanders on September 13th of this year. Their findings were jarring: nearly half the videos involved taboo "stepfamily" fantasies - 10 percent showed physical aggression, and more than a third showed non-consensual behaviour. An interesting piece on the NZ Herald website by Damian Venuto about the dangers of taking complicated issues to a people's vote. Venuto suggests people are nowhere near as rational or as malleable in their beliefs as they THINK they are - and will instead vote based on which side sells the best story.
