    Buskaid Soweto String Ensemble/Rosemary Nalden

    Buskaid is an ensemble, a charitable trust, and a vision come to fruition. The ensemble comprises young string musicians from Soweto, South Africa. Buskaid was founded in 1992 by NZ-born British viola player Rosemary Nalden, in response to a BBC radio interview highlighting the difficulties of a group of young string players in Diepkloof, Soweto

    In September last year Buskaid played under Sir John Eliot Gardiner at the 2007 BBC Proms. Gramophone magazine's Harriet Smith described the concert as one of the most "galvanic and thrilling" musical experiences of her life
