    Traditional Songs from Bosnia and Algeria

    Rosa: The debut album from Amira Medunjanin, a Bosnian singer of sevdah. Sevdah is a traditional lyric song form from this part of world; the songs are of love, loss and longing, like the Portuguese fado. Amira is joined on the album by the renowned Bosnian band Mostar Sevdah Reunion (Snail Records SR 66003)

    Riders of the Aurés: Houria Aïchi sings traditional songs from the Aurés region of Algeria, home of her ancestors, the Shawiya Berber people. She's accompanied by French ensemble L'Hijâz'Car in arrangements which combine early musical elements (including archival material) with the more contemporary (Accords Croises AC126)
