It is an essential instrument in tango groups, and in orchestras from the traditional orquesta típicas of the 1910s onwards to the present day. The bandoneón, so named by the German instrument maker and dealer Heinrich Band (1821-1860), was originally intended as an instrument for religious music and popular music of the day (WFMT)
